Are graves still available for sale?
Yes. Both cemeteries have graves still available for sale. Some sections of the cemetery, mainly the older sections have limited availability. Please call to find out ability.
How many people can be buried in each grave?
Each grave allows for one full burial and one set of ashes OR two sets of ashes. Two headstones are allowed on each grave.
What can be left on a grave?
All flowers placed for any new burial must be removed within three weeks or when they become withered, faded, or unsightly.
Natural cut flowers may be placed on graves at any time of the year. They will be removed when they become unsightly or when it becomes necessary to facilitate cemetery operations such as mowing.
Holidays – Flowers and Remembrances (flags, photos, mementos, stuffed animals, toys, lawn ornaments) may be placed at any burial site three days prior to holidays and must be removed within seven days following the holiday. If not removed, or if placed outside of holidays, cemetery staff will remove objects left at graves.
Artificial flowers and potted plants are not permitted on graves between May 1st to November 1st.
Permanent plantings, statues, vigil lights, breakable objects, and similar items are not permitted on the graves at any time. Do not leave as they will be removed by cemetery staff.
Is there a mowing schedule?
Unfortunately there is not an exact schedule. Mowing is done more frequently in the spring and summer and is subject to weather.
Do the cemeteries offer Green Burial?
Yes. Both cemeteries offer a hybrid version of Green Burial. Please contact us for details
Who do I contact if something is damaged?
Please contact us directly so we can repair any damage as soon as possible.
Some of the tress are gone, can I plant a new one?
The cemetery does not allow the planting of trees and or flowers, however if you would like to donate towards the Cemetery Tree fund please contact us and we will let you know how.
How old are the Cemeteries?
Fir Hill Cemetery was established June 9th 1888. Sandy Ridge Cemetery was donated and established in 1862.
Are dogs allowed at the cemetery?
Yes. We believe pets are part of families and are more than welcome at the cemeteries. Please be kind and clean up after your pets and keep them on a leash.
Where is the Scandinavian Cemetery?
The Scandinavian Cemetery is located in the south-western corner from Fir Hill Cemetery. This cemetery was established March 30th 1907. If you have any questions or concerns about this cemetery please feel free to call us and we can help.
What are the Cemetery Rules and Regulations?
- Grave makers must be set flat with the contour of the ground and be made of granite, bronze and masonry (wood is not allowed).
- Markers will be set in concrete with a minimum border of 4 inches on all edges of the stone and extending to the thickness of the stone. The maximum number of makers allowed per grave is 2.
- No temporary markers may be used except those provided by the cemetery.
- No planting of shrubs or flowers is allowed unless approved by the Association Board of Directors.
- Removal of sod for flower pots or vases is not allowed.
- No artificial flowers may be placed at the cemetery between May 1st and November 1st in any year.
- No Glass flower containers.
- The cemeteries require a liner or vault for casketed burials. Cremated remains must be placed in a hardened non-degradable container for burial.
- There are two burials per plot allowed in the following combinations:
- Casketed remains and one cremated remains OR
- Sets of cremated remains
